Road Improvements Paving the Way for Better Access

Friday, August 09, 2019

Thinking about buying a home in Spring? The Falls is conveniently located close to the Grand Parkway, Interstate 45 and The Woodlands Town Center.  And new improvements in the area are currently paving the way for even better access! City officials are working diligently to ensure transportation needs are met through-out the area. Here’s an update on the progress of these roadway improvements — according to a recent reports by Community Impact.

Rayford Road expansion

The project will widen Rayford Road from four to six lanes between Lazy Lane and the Grand Parkway, construct a six-lane bridge over the Union Pacific Corp. railroad tracks, install new traffic signals and add a raised median. As of July, drainage pipe installation from the Union Pacific bridge to Brookchase was completed, and crews were completing the outside lanes from Rayford Bend to the bridge, Montgomery County Precinct 3 officials said.

Birnham Woods Drive improvements

The project to widen Birnham Woods Drive from two to four lanes north of Fuller Bluff Drive to north of Elan Boulevard was substantially complete in early August, Precinct 3 officials said. In July, crews finished median work and striping the lanes. Signal poles at the intersections of Birnham Woods and Elan Boulevard as well as Birnham Woods and Legends Run were installed and operational when the lanes opened, Precinct 3 officials said.

Robinson Road improvements

The first of several projects along Robinson Road in Oak Ridge North could move forward later this year. The redesign includes two new signaled intersections on the east and west ends of the I-45 overpass, with realigned lanes and ramps connecting to each junction. Three of the four ramps will be adjusted to carry traffic in only one direction between the overpass and I-45 frontage roads. The southeastern ramp includes a two-way section providing access to offices and undeveloped space south of Robinson. The redesign also includes widening Robinson at Westwood Drive and Patsy Lane to two east- and westbound lanes with one center turn lane on both sides of the intersection.

Recently Completed: Woodlands Parkway widening

Montgomery County Precinct 3 officials announced July 2 that the Woodlands Parkway widening was complete and new westbound lanes were open. The project widened the road from six to eight lanes from just west of I-45 to a half-mile west of Grogans Mill Road. It also added one thru lane in each direction and a right turn lane in each direction at intersections along that stretch, Precinct 3 officials said.
